Usher dies after hit-and-run

The St. Joseph’s County Coroner's Office confirmed that Notre Dame basketball usher John Jurek died Saturday night, according to a report from WNDU.

Jurek was critically injured in a hit-and-run early Monday morning.

Notre Dame women’s basketball coach, Muffet McGraw, said Jurek will be missed.

“I used to look over during the national anthem and see John standing in the tunnel with [my husband],” McGraw said. “He always had a smile on his face. We will all miss his kindness, dedication and support of our program.”

The women’s basketball team held a prayer service Thursday night for Jurek’s recovery, and the men’s basketball team will have a moment of silence for Jurek during Monday’s exhibition game.

Officers said Jurek was wearing a reflective vest at the time of the accident, and that he is an active walker.

Police are still investigating the situation and are currently looking the driver of a small, tan- or cream-colored car with front hood damage on the passenger side, according to WNDU.
