Irish for Inclusion calls for University to amend non-discrimination clause

Two Notre Dame students, under the banner of Irish for Inclusion, are leading an initiative to change the University’s non-discrimination clause. Pablo Oropeza, a sophomore and vice president of Stanford Hall, and Dane Sherman, a junior in Siegfried Hall, have been working together to add categories to the University’s notice of non-discrimination.

Theology course explores marriage and love

Former Colombian president discusses climate, peace in Keough panel

Former Colombian president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Juan Manuel Santos headlined a panel on environmental protection and peacebuilding at the Keough School of Global Affairs’ Washington, D.C. office Tuesday. He and other panelists discussed the relationship between climate change and international conflict, advocating for action on environmental risks to foster peace in climate-vulnerable countries.

Campus organizations celebrate Dia de los Muertos

On Nov. 1 and 2, the streets of Mexico will brim with celebrations of Dia de los Muertos — literally meaning “Day of the Dead” — with colorful papel picado decorations, giant parade floats, face painting, mariachi bands and traditional dancing.

Alumni lectures on environmental ‘triple threat’

The “environment is a threat multiplier, whether it’s climate change, the loss of biodiversity or pollution,” said Valerie Hickey, the Kroc Institute’s 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, in her lecture at the Hesburgh Center for International Studies on Tuesday afternoon.

Notre Dame alumna begins new ministry at Saint Mary’s

Nicole Labadie, who became the new director of campus ministry at Saint Mary’s in October, hopes to find new ways to evangelize and accompany students on their faith journeys during their time at Saint Mary’s College She said the job combines her passions: the charisma of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, the focus of an all women’s school and the work of campus ministry.

Author Ashley C. Ford speaks at Saint Mary’s College

New York Times best-selling author Ashley Ford visited Saint Mary’s Thursday night for a reading of her memoir “Somebody’s Daughter,” followed by a Q&A session. In 2021, Ford published a full-length memoir about her childhood and the struggles she faced due to poverty, racism and assault.

Senator Tim Scott to speak at Notre Dame

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) will visit Notre Dame on Nov. 4, the University announced. Scott will engage in a fireside conversation taking place at 11 a.m. in the Carey Auditorium in Hesburgh Library. The event will be moderated by Vincent Phillip Muñoz, a political science professor and director of the Center for Citizenship and Constitutional Government.

Notre Dame hosts Rome Call for AI Ethics summit

Notre Dame is working with IBM and the Pontifical Academy for Life to host the Global University Summit for the Rome Call for AI Ethics. The summit, which began Wednesday, is a two-day event running through Thursday evening featuring panelists and speakers from around the world discussing ways universities can promote an ethical approach to researching and developing artificial intelligence (AI).
