Fencing: First in fencing

For some collegiate programs, winning championships ceases to be a goal and becomes an expectation. Notre Dame's fencing program is one of those programs — by winning their eighth national championship and third under Irish coach Janusz Bednarski Sunday, the Irish fencers fulfilled not a goal, but an expectation.

Baseball: ND wins Georgetown series

Finally able to take to their home field for the first time all season, the Irish couldn't have been happier — that is, until they won a three-game series against conference rival Georgetown to open Big East play.

Before Notre Dame's opening round game against Utah, I told The Observer's photographer to make sure to get some shots of the walk-ons when they would inevitably get the call towards the end of the game.

Hockey: Irish defeat Merrimack in overtime to advance

MANCHESTER, N.H. — With 15:00 left in overtime of Notre Dame's NCAA first round matchup with Merrimack, Irish coach Jeff Jackson called his team's only timeout. The Warriors were dominating the Irish in overtime, peppering Notre Dame netminder Mike Johnson with shot after shot. Nothing had slipped by Johnson yet, but it seemed only inevitable.

Notre Dame's NCAA history shows mixed results

For many years, the NCAA tournament had eluded the Notre Dame hockey program. Until 2004, the Irish never competed in the extra season. But recently, Notre Dame participation in the event has become nearly commonplace.

Men's Tennis: No. 21 Irish to host USF, Dayton

With only a little over a month until the Big East championships, the No. 21 Irish find themselves at a crossroads in their chase for another berth in the NCAA tournament. The team will continue action this weekend as it hosts Dayton and conference foe South Florida.

After a disappointing end to the season, the No. 9 Irish have one final shot at glory as they enter the first round of the NCAA tournament, taking on No. 7 Merrimack in Manchester, N.H.

Men's Lacrosse: Irish use late rally to top OSU

In their first game in over ten days, the No. 3 Irish brought just enough energy to their home turf Wednesday to withstand No. 20 Ohio State's furious rally in the fourth quarter and escape with an 8-7 victory.
