How cities have shown me who matters
Terese Schomogyi
Solo senior
I am a senior on the lacrosse team at Saint Mary’s. Like many others, I have felt these past four years slip away all too quickly. I feel so accomplished to have put forth so much time and effort to a team that has become like my family. The lacrosse team has made me grow, has shaped me into the person I am today and has shaped my identity. I will carry the lessons I’ve learned for the rest of my life and will keep the friends I’ve made close to my heart forever. While this team has become some of my closest friends, it has been lonely at the same time.
The right to be free and gay
Let me start by stating that I immediately hold a deep respect for anyone who takes an interest in the language of the laws that govern our nation and how the Supreme Court then interprets this language into the laws’ application to the daily lives of Americans. So my interest was sparked by the column covering the Supreme Court’s upcoming ruling on discrimination based on sexual orientation. However, I will admit that I was disappointed by the ultimate legal conclusions reached in that opinion piece, “LGBT discrimination is legal even if it’s wrong.”
Letter directly to the editor
I am writing to you today to talk about something that has been troubling me for some time now: the current state of The Observer.
Embracing the both/and
I spent all of sophomore year studying abroad in Innsbruck, Austria. It was wonderful and challenging, super fulfilling and really, really hard. My journey there ended, and now I’m back in the States, readjusting to life in the Midwest again and trying to process that year. It’s been four months since I came home and two months since I’ve been back at Saint Mary’s. For the most part, I think I am doing well with readjusting. Since I came home, it’s felt like I never left. Innsbruck seems like a faraway place; just like when I was there, Indiana felt like a faraway place.
The Gospel of Life
The Catholic faith, rightly understood, is a living witness to the person of Christ. I write on behalf of the thousands of other men and women on this campus who recognize that our active, personal faith demands an unapologetically pro-life response to the contemporary culture of death, especially to the tragedy of abortion.
Observer Editorial: ND & Title IX — where do we go from here?
When U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos repealed Obama-era Title IX policies in 2017, advocates across the country — including at Notre Dame — expressed concern over how the changes could negatively impact sexual misconduct investigations at universities.

Man up, NBA
Over the past few days, a bunch of stories have developed surrounding the Hong Kong protests, specifically the response of various Americans and their attempts to appease the Chinese government. Video game company Blizzard, a subsidiary of Activision, banned a Hong Kong player and renounced his winnings after he displayed pro-Hong Kong independence sentiments on a live stream. Apple removed an app from its app store, Hkmap.live, which protesters were using in order to monitor police presence at specific locations.
