Irish track and field and cross country head coach Alan Turner will not return to the role next season after his contract expires June 30, director of athletics Jack Swarbrick announced Monday.
Turner’s contract will not be renewed. He had been head coach of the squads since July 2014, and came to Notre Dame in 2010.
“We appreciate all that Alan has contributed to Notre Dame track and field and cross country during his time both as head coach as well as his earlier seasons as associate and assistant coach,” Swarbrick said in a statement. “We thank him for all those efforts, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The women’s cross country team recorded its best finishes under Turner in 2015 and 2016, when it finished eighth and 11th, respectively. In 2016, the team finished third at the ACC cross country championship and recorded a second-place finish in 2015. The women’s track and field squad recorded a third-place finish at the indoor ACC championship in both 2015 and 2016 and a fifth-place finish in those years at the ACC outdoor championship. In 2016, the women’s track and field team recorded a fifth-place finish at the NCAA indoor championship.
Under Turner, a variety of individual athletes tallied widespread success, including Molly Seidel, a four-time All-American and two-time national champion, Jessica Harris, a three-time All-American who won the ACC indoor mile in 2017 and 2018, senior Anna Rohrer, who has been named an All-American four times, and Nathan Richartz, who won the indoor ACC pole vault title in 2016 and the outdoor ACC title in both 2017 and 2018.
