Monday evening, Notre Dame football’s public relations team announced on Twitter that two Irish players are currently out because of COVID-19 protocols. Those two players will not participate in Notre Dame’s Saturday bout at Pittsburgh, their first road game of the season.
One athlete is in isolation due to a positive test and the other in quarantine as a result of contact tracing. Those are the results 278 COVID-19 tests administered between Monday of last week and this past Sunday.
Those results follow a postponed contest against Wake Forest and nearly two weeks without football activities after a rash of positive cases that resulted in 39 players in quarantine and isolation. It is a good sign for the Irish as several schools have been forced to postpone other contests, including Tulsa vs. Cincinnati and Florida vs. LSU this past weekend, the latter of which helped prompt the SEC to rearrange its schedule even for teams without several positive cases.
