Green: A fitting end to the Madness (April 5)

As college hoops faithful convene for Final Four festivities, all eyes will be on Atlanta this weekend. But while these fans gather around the television in their living rooms, in their favorite sports bars or, if they're lucky enough, in the Georgia Dome, they will also celebrate and reflect on the past five months of college basketball. Oh, what a season it has been.

Scoring came at a premium Wednesday night in a pitchers' duel at Frank Eck Stadium, with No. 20 Notre Dame ultimately pulling out a late-inning 3-1 victory over Valparaiso.

Last year, Matthias Farley was just a wide receiver who liked to hit people. But after a frenetic season in which he was switched to defense and thrusted into a starting role, the junior is now the most seasoned safety on the Irish roster.

Men's Lacrosse: Scioscia leads offense in rout

Junior attack John Scioscia scored a career-high six goals as No. 4 Notre Dame utilized a dominating second quarter to power itself to a 17-5 win over Marquette in the teams' first ever meeting Tuesday evening.

Robison: Recommiting to the Orioles (April 4)

Last year, I gave up early. As an Orioles fan, I had grown accustomed to seeing a surprisingly good team take the field in Camden Yards during April and May every year, only to watch them fall precipitously to the bottom of the AL East standings.

Men's Swimming: ND earns All-America honors

Part of a record nine-man Notre Dame contingent, six Irish swimmers earned All-America honors and the team finished tied for 36th place with seven points as a team at the NCAA championships in Indianapolis, which were held March 28 to March 30.

Baseball: Irish douse the Flames

Sophomore right hander Matt Ternowchek was outstanding in his first start of the season Tuesday, shutting down Illinois-Chicago and leading No. 20 Notre Dame to a 6-2 win on a chilly opening day at Frank Eck Stadium.

ND Women's Basketball: N'awlins bound

The regional final between No. 1 seed Notre Dame and No. 2 seed Duke promised to be a showdown. The Irish and Blue Devils delivered in an 87-76 win for Notre Dame, the school's 30th-straight victory.

Hockey: Irish fall in first round

The No. 4 Irish had an extremely successful run in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's final season, winning the last-ever conference championship at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on March 24.

Track and Field: Irish impress at Stanford Invitational

·

Competing against some of the best athletes in the country, the Irish held their own and showed their depth this weekend at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Oliver Nikilof Open in Cincinnati. Notre Dame athletes won a combined seven events between the two meets.
