South Florida poised to host BCS National Championship Game

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Because of the wind patterns Thursday, flights into Miami International Airport flew over the vast majority of both Fort Lauderdale and Miami before turning back north and landing. Right in between the two cities, however, lies Miami Gardens. And if you have a window seat on the right-hand side of the plane as the aircraft descends over Miami Gardens, you can look out and see Sun Life Stadium.

When Delta flight 1829 passed over Sun Life Stadium yesterday, I had that right-side window seat. And when I glimpsed Sun Life Stadium, I experienced a thrill of excitement - and getting off the plane only increased it.

It feels like BCS National Championship Game logos are plastered all over South Florida, starting in the airports. Hotel room keys are bright orange, and men wearing orange blazers are everywhere. It's orange, orange and orange everywhere. When the weekend rolls around, I imagine it'll be orange, blue, gold, crimson and white everywhere.

We at The Observer have lots of coverage planned over the next few days leading up to the game - articles, photos and videos galore. Stay with us here at ndsmcobserver.com and follow us at @ObserverSports on Twitter. The excitement is building, and we'll tell you all about it. Even if you can't fly here.
