Outdoor programming to resume, NDPD to investigate off-campus gatherings

Beginning Saturday, outdoor student programming and activities will be able to resume if sponsored or co-sponsored by the University, vice president for student affairs Erin Hoffmann Harding and vice president for campus safety and University operations Mike Seamon said in a Friday email.

The email said these events would be reintroduced due to the lower risk of transmitting the virus outside, and the University hopes to allow more social activities if case counts decrease.

“We know there are additional aspects of campus life that are important to students, and we hope case counts will decline significantly so we can reintroduce them,” the email said.

In addition, a limited number of students will be able to attend basketball and volleyball games beginning Wednesday. More information on the ticket process will be released soon.

Hoffmann Harding and Seamon said while the majority of students are abiding by COVID-19 safety policies, some events off-campus were “troubling,” including a large gathering at Monterrey Mexican Bar and Grill Feb. 19.

“NDPD is working with the Mishawaka Police Department to investigate the involvement of Notre Dame students in this event, and they will refer any students identified to the conduct process,” the email said.

The email said a prayer service sponsored by Campus Ministry will be held Wednesday to honor those who have lost their lives to the coronavirus.
