The Patrick Kramer Dining Room has been “unveiled and utilized by the athletic department for the first time,” Notre Dame Athletics stated in a press release.
The facility was named after 1978-1981 defensive lineman Pat Kramer.
Social media posts by the Athletics department describe the dining hall as a “premier nutrition center designed to fuel every student-athlete through the integration of culinary excellence and nutrition science.”
According to the release, it is a first step toward the completion of Shields Family Hall, a new athletics facility announced in 2024. In addition to the dining hall, the facility will include meeting and office spaces, an advanced training room, and equipment and sports medicine facilities
University Architect Dan Cook said in a May interview with The Observer that the building was expected to be finished during the summer. The facilities page lists the occupancy date as summer 2026.
At 158,000 square feet, the new facility will offer 50% more space than the Guglielmino Athletics Complex. Known colloquially as “the Gug,” much of the present facility is dedicated to football, including practice locker rooms and office space for coaches.
The release stated that the completion of Shields Family will permit new renovations to Guglielmino, dedicating the older facility to other varsity sports.
Notre Dame Athletics declined to comment regarding how the new space in Shields differs from the dining facility at Guglielmino.
