The 2024-25 Holy Cross men’s golf season wrapped up three weeks ago with the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament, hosted by St. Ambrose University in Silvis, Illinois. The Saints finished fourth with a team score of 988 as the host program captured its first conference title.
For Holy Cross, the tournament closed out a year of new beginnings, as Matthew Marvin spent his first full season as the program’s head coach after inheriting the position in March 2024. The Elkhart native oversaw the Saints as they competed in numerous events throughout the fall and spring seasons.
With the new coach came new talent. Freshman Jacob Palmer emerged as the team’s top golfer during the season, adding excitement for the program’s future. A product of nearby Granger, Indiana, Palmer first made his name known on a conference-wide scale in the middle of March with his performance at the Defiance College Island Pointe Intercollegiate. Palmer placed second among 64 golfers in that event, shooting a three-over-par 147 across two rounds as the Saints finished ninth in team scoring. The showing earned Palmer the first spring 2025 edition of the CCAC Men’s Golfer of the Week award.
Palmer’s excellence continued into postseason play, as he once again led Holy Cross at the CCAC Tournament. Carding a three-round score of 230, he finished second once more in a field of 50 golfers. The freshman’s final-round 74 nearly won him an individual title, as Palmer ended the event only one stroke back of the solo champion.
Holy Cross also got a top-10 finish out of senior Mikey Chase at the CCAC Tournament. Chase swung it well in the first round, posting a score of 76 on the opening 18 before ending up tied for eighth with a three-round total of 244. The only other senior on the Holy Cross roster, Dillan Mori, shot a 263 to finish 28th. The Saints’ other two competitors, both sophomores, were Jack Urbanski and Cameron Rascher. They finished 23rd and 26th respectively, each playing their best golf during the opening round.
With this year’s roster so heavy on youth, the Saints should only improve heading into next year and beyond. For now, Holy Cross enters the 2025-26 campaign with seven freshmen and sophomores while losing just two to seniors. Barring any changes to the roster during the next two off-seasons, the Saints are scheduled to graduate only a pair at the end of next season as well.
