Bishop Rhoades holds prayer service for sanctity of life

Following Tuesday 5:15 Mass, Bishop Rhoades invited community to join him in prayer at the Grotto

Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, along with several other bishops from across the United States, celebrated a Tuesday evening Mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart with roughly 100 people present. According to their announcement during the Mass, the collective was on campus for a conference regarding faith, religion and science, hosted in part by the McGrath Institute for Church Life. The homily centered on the Lord’s prayer, which directly related to Tuesday’s Gospel reading, Matthew 6:7-15.

No specific mention to the preservation of life or the unborn was made during the homily or the general intercessions. However, right before Benediction, Rhoades noted he would be praying a rosary for the cause of life at the Grotto following Mass, inviting students and community members to join him.

At the Grotto, Rhoades addressed a crowd of roughly 20 people.

“We will pray together for the cause of life and respect for all human life. We pray for the University of Notre Dame, and we ask a powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother as she looks over this campus,” he said.
