Much of the focus this Saturday against Wake Forest will be on Notre Dame football’s “household names” — the Sam Hartmans, the JD Bertrands and the Cam Harts. But Senior Day at Notre Dame represents something more. It's an opportunity to honor and celebrate all those graduating who made a significant impact on the football team, the University and the community. In other words, it's also for players like Cole Aubrey.

The 10th-ranked Notre Dame women’s soccer team entered Thursday night’s game at 5-1-2, looking to continue its hot start to the season against the No. 16 Duke Blue Devils. With Pitt looming on the road Sunday, the Irish needed a strong result in Durham. They found it in a stunning, 2-1 victory.

The Holy Cross men’s soccer team came into their game Wednesday night with a 1-1 record, looking to build on a 3-0 win against Indiana East on Saturday at Eaton High School. The Saints traveled to play the 0-3 Maple Leafs of Goshen College for this crucial non-conference game early in the season.

Notre Dame men’s lacrosse finished their regular season with an outstanding 10-2 record, and a 4-2 mark in conference play. That effort earned them the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They have defeated No. 1 Duke, No. 20 North Carolina and Ohio State at home. They took down No. 4 Georgetown, No. 5 Maryland and No. 8 Michigan away from South Bend. Their only losses were handed to them by No. 2 Virginia.

Entering this week, Notre Dame baseball was coming off a weekend of dreams. After sweeping the No. 8 Virginia Cavaliers at Frank Eck Stadium by scores of 10-7, 10-2 and 5-4, the Irish improved their overall record to 23-15 and their conference record to 11-10. Notre Dame was hot, riding a five-game winning streak after recently taking a vital ACC series win against the Pitt Panthers.

Following a hard-fought 2-2 tie to Lake Forest last Saturday, the Belles Soccer team of Saint Mary’s took the field on Wednesday against the Anderson Ravens. The Belles were looking to notch their first win of the season against a Ravens team fresh off a 5-0 win vs. Asbury and a 2-2 tie to Huntington.

On Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium, the Notre Dame men’s soccer squad took the field against the Chicago State Cougars, seeking to notch another win after a 2-1 victory over Virginia. The match provided the opportunity for a tune-up match with more ACC play on the horizon.

Following a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to North Carolina Saturday night, head coach Chad Riley and the Irish were looking to bounce back against Kalamazoo Tuesday night. On a rainy, crisp night at Alumni Stadium, the Irish took the field looking to find a momentum-building win with a tough patch of the schedule approaching. This was the first time Notre Dame took on Kalamazoo since 1980, when the Hornets defeated the Irish 1-0.

With selection day for the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship only six weeks away, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have their work cut out for them to prove to the committee they deserve to be one of the 48 teams selected. An October schedule loaded with competitive ACC match-ups should give the Irish the opportunity to do just that. Notre Dame will begin their gauntlet of a month tomorrow night in Bloomington against the Indiana University Hoosiers.

The Fighting Irish men’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 11 Louisville at home this past Saturday, a defeat in which the Irish took three times more shots and four times more corners than the Cardinals. The Irish maintained the majority of possession and controlled much of the flow of the match too. But, the Irish failed to convert on their many prime scoring chances, a problem which has plagued them all season.

With the 20th year of Baraka Bouts at the University of Notre Dame fast approaching, senior captains Sabrina Curran and Piper Shine are ready to carry out their last tournament in their time at the university. The pair have helped the largest women’s boxing club across any campus in the country weather the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic, develop its mentorship opportunities and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

Following a 79-72 Nov. 4 loss to Goshen College the Saints looked to rebound at home against Indiana University-South Bend. The Saints returned to McKenna Arena looking to return to .500 on the season and capture their first victory since Oct. 31 versus East-West University. The game also represented the inaugural conference matchup for the Saints, with pressure mounting to make a statement as a brutal slate of games begins.

The first thing you need to understand, if you are an American inexperienced with world soccer, is that Greg Berhalter is not a “bad guy." He’s not the Bobby Petrino or Urban Meyer of American soccer. I personally have had the opportunity to engage in a number of brief conversations with the man and can confirm he is a genuine, humble and approachable person who truly cares about U.S. soccer.

The Holy Cross Saints came into Wednesday night’s game at McKenna Arena looking to rebound from four straight losses following a victory to begin the season. This would be the last game the Saints played at McKenna Arena in Notre Dame until December 10, with five straight games on the road approaching. The game would also represent the Saints’ third game of conference play in CCAC, in which they were winless thus far. Their opponent would be the Governors State Jaguars, a 0-5 team.

Notre Dame men’s tennis head coach Ryan Sachire knows success in the NCAA tennis season is not just about what happens in March, April or May. “It starts back in the fall,” he said. “Our culture with these guys … those guys have all played a lot of tennis matches for Notre Dame. I liked where we ended our fall season with how we were practicing, the mentality we brought every single day.”
