Of the $223 million in research funding awarded to Notre Dame, $134 million was from federal agencies, $23 million was from private foundations and $20 million was from industry partners. The remainder of the funding was from other non-federal sources.

Notre Dame's research expenditures have steadily risen from $182 million in 2014 to $332 million in 2023. Research awards have risen from $113 million in 2014 to $223 million in 2023.
