University Power Plant hosts tours as part of Energy Week
Looming high over the far corner of campus behind Hesburgh Library, the Notre Dame Power Plant remains a mystery to many students — a constant presence that most take for granted. As a part of Energy Week, NDEnergy partnered with the Notre Dame Utilities Department to demystify this part of campus. On Wednesday and Thursday, the Power Plant staff provided students an inside look by leading tours through the facilities that heat, cool and power Notre Dame.

The event began with opening remarks from University President Fr. John Jenkins and Francisco Aragon, associate professional specialist for the Institute of Latino Studies, and a performance of Herrera’s multi-voiced poem “The Soap Factory,” directed by film, theatre and television professional specialist Siiri Scott.

On Sunday, the Gay and Lesbian Alumni of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's (GALA-ND/SMC) led a “Pilgrimage of Mercy” in New York, encouraging recognition of LGBTQ Catholics during the Catholic Church’s Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.
