Next Tuesday Saint Mary's College will shed light on an often-unheard community within South Bend: incarcerated women. The College is hosting a Symposium on Female Incarceration on Tuesday, December 3 that will highlight the work of men and women who serve the incarcerated.

While Charlotte Elster's day job is researching at the forefront of theoretical nuclear physics, her self-described "early day" job is figure skating. A physics professor at Ohio University, Elster gave a lecture Wednesday about the intersection of her two passions: the physics of ice skating.

SMC students express concerns over food services

It's food week at Saint Mary's, a time for students to learn about the foods they're eating and ways to eat healthier. As a part of food week, students had the opportunity Wednesday to bring their questions and concerns to Barry Bowles, general manager of Sodexo dining services, which operates the Saint Mary's dining hall.

Worker killed by falling tree

The St. Joseph Co. Coroner said 22-year-old Mark Ellsworth of Mishawaka was killed Thursday at about 10:40 a.m., according to the South Bend Tribune.

Saint Mary's hosts International Cultural Festival

On Thursday, The International Cultural Festival at Saint Mary's showcased a variety of ethnic performances and presentations by international students and cultural clubs in conjunction with International Education Week, Terra Coham, assistant director of international student and scholar advisor at the Center for Women's Intercultural Leadership (CWIL), said.

Growing up in a Tibetan monastery, ArjiaRinpoche lived through the political oppression and forced labor camps of the Cultural Revolution, escaped to the United States in 1998 and now works as the director of Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center in Bloomington, Ind.
