Activist gives speech advocating food industry reform

Food activist Temra Costa gave the keynote address of Saint Mary's Food Week, titled "The Roots of the American Meal," in Carroll Auditorium on Wednesday evening. The week is sponsored by the Saint Mary's Sustainable Food Committee.

Nobel Prize winner lectures on justice, social change

Harvard professor and 1998 Nobel Prize winner in Economics Amartya Sen delivered the 18th annual Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh Lecture in Ethics and Public Policy Tuesday night. Sen is also this year's recipient of the Notre Dame Award for International Human Development and Solidarity. His lecture stressed the importance of positive social change in the world.

Notre Dame Campus Ministry wants to provide opportunities for members of all faith traditions to encounter God in their daily lives. Brett Perkins, head of Catholic Peer Ministry and Protestant Student Resources, said Notre Dame seeks to remain steadfast in its mission, and provide opportunities for those of other faiths.

Senior Ryan Geraghty did not become an industrial design major to win awards. He said he picked his major because it focuses on solving problems and communicating new ideas through form and function.
