Notre Dame Chorale

·

This May Notre Dame's official concert choir, the Chorale, is making an eight-day pilgrimage to Italy in their "Heart of Italy" tour. The Chorale has also journeyed to France, Germany, Austria and New Zealand. Besides international tours, the Chorale toured through U.S. cities over Winter Break and the Midwest in January.

Pandora: Music your way

·

Pandora: no longer known in popular culture as that impulsive Greek chick. No, Pandora has commanded the Internet signals of laptops and smart phones across campus, save for that weird dead zone between the library and Starbucks.  As an Internet radio app and website, Pandora enables listeners to create a station based on an artist, then streams music from similar artists through that station. And although Pandora may not have encountered exactly what she wanted in her box, your Pandora Radio will be fine-tuned to your tastes. No random Pitchfork-endorsed artist will pop up on your beloved Britney station. But you will get a heavy dose of the Princess of Pop as well as some quality Christina and Rihanna. So the next time Steve Jobs and iTunes lets you down, or you're on the verge of tears because using Limewire can now land you a lawsuit, check out Pandora.

Scene Picks - YouTube "Stars"

·

It seems that Bieber Fever has sparked a love of pre-pubescent pop stars with floppy hair. Bieber's rise to fame using the video-sharing website YouTube has inspired many young teens to break out into the music scene in a similar fashion, putting their own videos onto the site in hopes of gaining a following. Ark Music Factory, a new production company, has capitalized on this new fad and helps aspiring young stars break out on the web. Although these preteens may not have the melodic voices of seasoned stars like Lady Gaga or Bono, they have nonetheless found fame. Check out Scene's favorite YouTube hopefuls.

How interesting is your Notre Dame experience?

·

As a senior economics major, I can't help but wonder if my time in college has been worth the tuition. Using the intelligence I acquired from this superior University, I came up with a highly sophisticated way to gauge the Notre Dame experience.  Let's be honest, this score is more important than any college test. So go ahead, challenge your friends, and be sure to keep this bucket list for future reference.  In the words of the great Ferris Bueller, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Pop music's campaign for individuality

·

The "Dove Campaign for Real Beauty" launched in 2004. Using TV advertisements, billboards and short films, the campaign strove to celebrate the natural and unique bodies of women, emphasizing the beauty of all shapes and sizes, not just those of models.

Fashion by Felicia

·

There is nothing more frightening than realizing you have become a casualty of your own "Mission to Conquer Fashion." I came to this realization suddenly and abruptly, every morning during my study-abroad experience in Paris.

Culture Tantrum

·

Over Christmas break, I was sitting at my kitchen table, wondering about the state of the world and my place in it. Well, mostly, I was just doing the almost-but-not-yet graduated dance, wondering what I was going to do with my life. A particularly profound thought struck me that, as of May 23rd, I will no longer be under the control and guidance — and financial care — of the cash cow. I'm not referring to my parents — who I would never refer to as the cash cow, but something more refined, like the cash llama or the cash flying unicorn — but the illustrious institution that is Notre Dame.

Paul' doesn't impress

·

The British duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost teamed up with Seth Rogen for this sci-fi comedy blending "ET" with "Shawn of the Dead." While certainly having its funny moments, "Paul" was merely an average comedy with little taking it to the next level. Still, if you're looking for something to entertain you for a while it just might be worth it.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog' comes to campus

·

A freeze ray, the Evil League of Evil and Captain Hammer will be making an appearance on Notre Dame's campus this weekend as the Notre Dame's Student Players present Joss Whedon's Emmy-Award winning online musical sensation "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" at the Washington Hall Lab Theater.

Paul' movie preview

·

The duo from "Hot Fuzz" and "Shawn of the Dead" team up again for the sci-fi comedy "Paul." Simon Pegg and Nick Frost play the roles of the two geeks on a pilgrimage to the home of alien conspiracy theorists — Area 51. Joining those two on screen are Seth Rogen, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Bateman and SNL cast members Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader.

This one's for the kids

·

Sunshine spreads across Notre Dame campus. Temperatures approach 50 degrees. This can only mean one thing: spring is arriving. And with the arrival of spring comes one of Notre Dame's oldest traditions — ring by spring. Loving and devoted sons of Notre Dame will fill the Grotto, the lakes and the Lyons Arch with the shine of diamonds as they prepare to spend the rest of their lives with their beloved Notre Dame or Saint Mary's sweethearts. For those couples who choose to have children, they will undoubtedly want to share with their kids the magic of the place which brought them together (and no, not just Domerfest). No words will ever adequately describe the aura and magic of Notre Dame, especially on a football Saturday, but for those who want to simultaneously help their children read and foster a love of all things Irish, Hammes Bookstore stocks many options. From coloring books to A-to-Z manuals, there's something for kids of all ages and reading levels. Here are a few standouts.

Super Mash Bros, a Los Angeles-based mash-up group, performed at Legends last Friday night, creating what was aptly described as "musical jungle juice."

Fashion by Felicia

·

There comes a time in every woman's life when she realizes she has become a practical woman of her age. No longer visible are the days of jetting off, gowns at the ready, to conquer an unknown city. Relegated to the past are the exhilarating moments of hiding amongst a celebrity crowd in order to crash a Hollywood premiere of epic proportions (again feel free to pester me for details). Instead papers, presentations and exams exert their concentrated control over our attention, much like that fabulous new shade of OPI nail lacquer so artfully displayed on a shelf at Sephora.

Philip Treacy to adorn royal wedding

·

An Irishman whose childhood dreams swarmed with fantasies of fairytale weddings might just get to be part of one this April. Reports say that London-based hat-designer Philip Treacy will be enlisted by the Royal Family to vamp up the garb of Kate Middleton and her bridal party on the big day.

More "Fighting" than "Irish"

·

If you're not ready for a brawl by the end of "Going Out In Style," there's not much anyone can do for you. Dropkick Murphys' seventh studio album, released just in time for St. Patrick's Day, is chock-full of what the Murphys are known for: drunken vocals, driving Celtic melodies, and bagpipes - lots and lots of bagpipes. Listening to this album is like being steamrolled by a shamrock.
