Fencing: Freshman fencers compete

A select group of fencers from Notre Dame traveled as individuals in connection with their club teams to compete in the Junior North American Cup. The four-day event consists of different age groups and levels of competition, but so far the Irish fencers have had a great impact in the tournament.

Men's Swimming: Irish remain undefeated

he Irish jump-started the season Friday by defeating Cleveland State 131-112 in the first dual meet of the spring season. Notre Dame (6-0) increased its record against Cleveland State to 28-10, continuing its longstanding competition against the school that first came to Rolfs Aquatics Center in 1985.

ND Women's Basketball: Achonwa helps squad weather Red Storm

Despite holding a commanding edge in the series history, No. 2 Notre Dame has not typically delighted in meeting St. John's, as the Red Storm have pulled off three upsets of ranked Irish squads since 2006. On Sunday, however, the Irish (16-1, 5-0 Big East) made sure history did not repeat itself, dominating the Red Storm (9-7, 3-1) en route to a 74-50 victory at Purcell Pavilion.

SMC Swimming: Individuals shine in loss

St. Mary's faced off against two rivals from their own conference Friday at the Rolfs Aquatics Center. Though the Belles were defeated by both Calvin and Kalamazoo at the meet, the individual results were encouraging for the team.

Track: Irish win 12 events at home

The Irish had a field day in the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday at the Loftus Center, as the men's team finished second in the tournament and the women won the event.

From the moment she first stepped onto the court in Purcell Pavilion, freshman guard Jewell Loyd has dazzled Irish fans, scoring 20 points in an 88-28 exhibition win over Edinboro.

Hockey: Veteran Calabrese anchors the Irish defense

In the two seasons preceding the 2012-2013 campaign, Irish senior defenseman Sam Calabrese played a significant role for Notre Dame, racking up top minutes and scoring a total of 34 points with a +14 rating in 82 games.

Men's Basketball: Storm damage

The No. 20 Irish failed to exorcise their Madison Square Garden demons as St. John's upset Notre Dame 67-63 on Tuesday night in New York and handed Notre Dame its second consecutive loss.

Track and Field: Notre Dame takes 11 events at Open

In a final tune-up before this weekend's Notre Dame Invitational, the Irish track squad travelled to Grand Valley State in Michigan for a successful showing in the Bob Eubanks Open, winning 11 events over the course of the two-day meet.

Men's Swimming: Irish take first at Copa Coqui Meet

The Irish escaped the winter weather for a trip to Puerto Rico, where they competed in the CopaCoqui Meet in Trujillo Alto on Jan. 5. The team took first place, gathering 64 points to beat out a variety of opponents, including Army, Connecticut and schools from Puerto Rico.

Hockey: Squad ends road trip with loss

No. 5 Notre Dame will be more than happy to return to campus this week, as its stretch of four road games in eight days ended with a 4-2 loss at Bowling Green on Tuesday night.

SMC Basketball: Belles look to continue win streak against Hope

After defeating Trine 59-43 on Jan. 9, Saint Mary's will look to follow up strong tonight against sixth-ranked Hope.. The Belles (5-11, 3-4 MIAA) enter the game on a two-game winning streak. The Belles' victories over Albion (3-12,1-6) and Trine (9-7, 3-4) put the Belles back on track after a five-game losing streak.

ND Women's Basketball: Irish win on the foul line

Notre Dame entered Tuesday's game against Georgetown as the nation's best free-throw shooting team, making just over 81 percent of their foul shots. But the Irish (15-1, 4-0 Big East) outdid themselves against the Hoyas (10-7, 1-3), converting 35-of-38 free throws on their way to a chippy 79-64 victory.
