Eagles aim to knock off another top Irish team

The story is well-known by now: Notre Dame rises up the rankings, wins high-profile games and protects an undefeated record through most of the season. Then it meets Boston College, and the dream is over. The Eagles (2-7) will try to follow the examples of 1993 and 2002 when they attempt to upend the Irish (9-0) this weekend in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Hockey: Lee embraces captaincy, move to center

During the offseason, Irish junior captain and center Anders Lee had a decision to make. He could either sign a contract with the New York Islanders and move one step closer to the National Hockey League or return to school to work toward a degree in management and try to make another Frozen Four after the Irish missed out on the NCAA Tournament his sophomore season.

ND Women's Tennis: Irish split for weekend meets

The Irish will be splitting up the squad this weekend, sending two athletes to Lakewood Ranch, Fla., for the Lakewood Ranch Invitational while the rest of the team travels north for the Western Michigan Invitational.

Men's Soccer: Irish get ready for Big East semifinals

On a team buoyed by veteran leadership and dominated by experienced players, Irish freshman midfielder Patrick Hodan has found a spot among the upperclassmen. After helping propel No. 5 Notre Dame to the conference semifinals Saturday, Hodan's spot on Monday was the same as that occupied by most freshmen: the one carrying the equipment.

ND thriving in close games

Notre Dame has played 16 games decided by a touchdown or less since the arrival of third-year coach Brian Kelly. The Irish went just 2-5 in the first seven such games under Kelly, but are 8-1 since then. Saturday's 14-point comeback in the fourth quarter is the largest the Irish have overcome under Kelly and their biggest fourth-quarter comeback since Notre Dame trailed Michigan State 37-21 and came back to win 40-37 in 2006. Over the century mark Over the course of Saturday's game, Notre Dame tied the school record of 104 offensive plays. The Irish also ran that many against Iowa in 1968. The Irish also recorded their longest scoring drive of the season, but managed just a field goal to grab a 6-3 lead in the second quarter. The drive took a time of possession of 9:26, which it the program's longest scoring drive in at least 15 seasons.

ND Women's Soccer: Young team falls in semis

The "baby Irish" found out their youth and raw talent could only take them so far Friday, as No. 24 Notre Dame fell 1-0 to No. 10 Marquette in the Big East tournament semifinals in East Hartford, Conn.
