Throughout the season, the Irish have racked up their fair share of frequent flyer miles traveling from coast to coast for competitions. Not once, however, have the Irish fenced within the friendly confines of the JACC.

Following a tough 4-3 loss at No. 17 Illinois last Sunday, the No. 28 Irish look to rebound this weekend when they travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face Indiana Saturday and either No. 3 Ohio State or Cornell Sunday.

With many Saint Mary's basketball alumnae in the crowd, the Belles will try to accomplish Saturday what the former players only did once in the last seven seasons — defeat highly-ranked conference opponent Hope.

Men's Basketball: ND sinks Pirates

When Notre Dame defeated No. 1 Syracuse on Saturday, it took the Irish 26 seconds to reach a total of three points. On Wednesday night against Seton Hall, the Irish did not pass the threshold until 10:06 remaining in the first half. The Irish, however, survived the slow start to beat the Pirates 55-42.

Hockey: ND sits atop tough CCHA

Though it will cease to exist in less than two years, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) is stronger than ever, with eight of the nation's top 20 teams in the USCHO.com rankings. The No. 4 Irish (14-9-3) are the highest-ranked team in the conference but sit sixth in the conference standings, five points behind No. 6 Ohio State.

For most incoming college students, the summer before college represents one final joyous period of leisure, a time to reflect and recharge before advancing to the rigors of college. For freshman Bridget Casey, however, the final summer before college signified an opportunity to prove herself among the best of her sport and add a signature achievement to her stellar resume.

When senior fencer Christina LaBarge took a beginners fencing class at 13 years old, it would have been difficult to predict that eight years later she would be a student at Notre Dame, a college athlete and a member of a national championship team.
