SMC Golf: Belles try to catch conference rivals

With the regular season winding down, the Belles will attempt to gain ground on MIAA leaders Hope and Olivet when they play conference foe Albion at the Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich. on Thursday.

SMC Volleyball: Belles defeat Albion to extend MIAA win streak

The Belles faced conference rival Albion at home Wednesday and came away with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 27-25) victory against the Britons. Saint Mary's (6-7, 4-4 MIAA) took its third straight MIAA match and secured its fourth-place spot in the conference with the win.

Women's game impressive

Before heading over from Saint Mary's to the LaBar Practice Complex, I wasn't too sure what to expect from the womens' side of interhall football at Notre Dame. The previous week, I was introduced to the intensity of the men's play but I wasn't too sure how the women's games would be. Would it be serious? Would it be fun to watch?

Football: Getting it done

A gritty 15-12 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday restored confidence in Notre Dame's ability to close out games. After eight penalties for 85 yards, two untimely turnovers and a missed field goal, Irish coach Brian Kelly reaffirmed the strides his team still needs to make in his weekly press conference Tuesday.

New attitude drives Keenan to early success

In just two weeks, Keenan has made a 180-degree turnaround compared to last year. Coming off a 1-3 season and losing valuable contributing players, one would not expect Keenan to be heading into its third game with a 2-0 record. But the Knights are doing exactly that.

SMC Cross Country: Saint Mary's finishes 7th at MIAA Jamboree

Saint Mary's finished in seventh place at the MIAA Jamboree on Saturday. The event, held at the Zollner Golf Course on the campus of Trine University, is important as it makes up one-third of the team scores that will decide the conference champion for the season.

ND Volleyball: Squad splits pair of matches

The Irish returned to the friendly confines of Purcell Pavilion over the weekend, opening Big East play with mixed results. Notre Dame swept Georgetown for an easy win Saturday, but lost to Villanova 3-1 Sunday.

While watching the Welsh Family offense methodically move the ball in a 27-8 win over McGlinn on Monday night, it was easy to be awestruck by the efficiency and success of the attack.

Eifert steps up with Floyd covered

PITTSBURGH — It isn't easy to replace an All-American receiver who is responsible for 41 percent of the team's receptions through three games, especially when facing a five-point fourth-quarter deficit in enemy territory. Tyler Eifert was up to the task however, and almost singlehandedly drove Notre Dame to victory Saturday.

ND Women's Soccer: ND drops game in OT

Until 18 seconds into overtime against No. 14/15 Marquette on Sunday, no member of the 2011 Irish squad had experienced a collegiate season with more than four losses. But with a quick Irish turnover and a Marquette goal seconds later that secured a 3-2 win for the Golden Eagles, Notre Dame (4-5-2, 1-2-1 Big East) faced defeat.

Men's Tennis: Notre Dame competes separately

Four members of the Irish squad competed in the Land Rover Napa Valley Tennis Classic in St. Helena, Calif., this weekend, while the rest of the squad stayed home to compete in the Tom Fallon Invitational.
