Michigan's Denard Robinson adjusts to new offense under Brady Hoke

In his inaugural season as Michigan coach, Brady Hoke is relying on junior quarterback Denard Robinson to display some of the explosiveness that transformed the undersized quarterback into a Heisman candidate last September, due in large part to his performance at Notre Dame Stadium in a 28-24 Michigan victory.

Kubinski targets nation's best

Irish coach Jim Kubinski estimates that he communicates with 400 to 500 prospective student-athletes per recruiting class each year. Of that number, only two or three will enroll at the University and join the team.

Brian Kelly names Rees starter

Two weeks to the day after naming senior DayneCrist the starting quarterback and after only two quarters with Crist as starter, Irish coach Brian Kelly announced Tuesday that sophomore Tommy Rees would be the starter moving forward.

Joseph: Poor fundamentals are concerning (Sept. 5)

Saturday's game was, to say the least, unusual. From the first weather delay in Notre Dame history, to how quickly Dayne Crist got benched, to the second weather delay in Notre Dame history, everything about the 2011 season opener was bizarre. But despite all of the distractions, one surprise stood out more than most, and it's the most worrisome — the Irish fundamentals were, quite frankly, terrible.

SMC Soccer: Belles win Defiance Classic

The Belles dominated in the Defiance Classic with two 4-0 shutout victories over Defiance College and Thiel College this weekend, snatching their first tournament win since 2008.

The Saint Mary's cross country team braved the heat in their season opening race Saturday at the Hokum Karem meet at Wabash College. The team finished third with a group score of 29.

Men's Soccer: Split Decision

The Irish split their two games at the season's kickoff tournament, the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic, with a 4-1 win over Dayton Friday and a 2-1 double-overtime loss against Saint Louis on Sunday in Bloomington, Ind.

After dropping two consecutive matchups for the first time in 45 games, No. 10 Notre Dame will come home and try to salvage its hopes for this season in the Adidas Invitational this weekend.
