Texas A&M defeats Stanford to reach title game

Three-quarters of the arena were on their feet, cheering for Texas A&M (32-5) Sunday night as the Aggies were moments away from taking Stanford (33-3) out of the running. Despite Cardinal junior forward Nneka Ogwumike's layup at :09, Stanford could not land itself in the Championship game, as Aggies' senior guard Sydney Colson got the ball to junior guard Tyra White, who knocked down the game winner with three seconds to go, giving the Aggies a 63-62 victory.

Irish coach Deanna Gumpf earned her 400th career win this weekend, as the Irish swept Big East conference opponents Providence in a three-game series at Melissa Cook Stadium, winning 12-4, 7-3 and 9-0.

After a disappointing opening round that left Notre Dame in 17th place in the field of 23 teams, the Irish battled back to claim eighth place in the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic. Consistent improvement throughout the weekend propelled the Irish past the twin challenges of a new scoring system and a highly talented field.
