Baseball: Irish travel to face Pittsburgh

Along with several Major League teams taking the field for the first time at home, Pittsburgh welcomes Notre Dame in its conference home opener Friday. The Panthers will be looking for their first Big East win at Charles L. Cost Field, while the Irish hope to christen the facility with a loss on the strength of their pitchers.

Hockey: Tynan wins Rookie of the Year

Irish freshman center T.J. Tynan garnered another of what is sure to be many postseason awards Wednesday, winning the College Hockey News Rookie of the Year Award.

Under the lights in College Station, Texas, in the spring of 2009, junior Shannon Mathews — then just a freshman — took Notre Dame to where it had never been before: the semifinals of the NCAA championships. For third-year Irish assistant coach Julia Scaringe, that was the highlight of her coaching career.

Baseball: Big inning 'bonanza'

For the majority of the current season, Irish coach Mik Aoki has called for his team to produce at the plate in timely situations. He got his wish Tuesday night, even if it was only for one inning.

ND Softball: Broncos claim win over ND

The weather was not the only thing cold for the Irish on Tuesday, as their struggle to generate offense resulted in a 3-2 loss to Western Michigan on their home turf. The loss snapped Notre Dame's 21-game home winning streak, the fifth longest in the nation.
