ND Volleyball: St. John's, UConn next up at Purcell

·

The Irish will celebrate the holiday weekend by looking for a pair of victories as they host Big East opponents St. John's and Connecticut, two teams that they have easily defeated in seasons past. To repeat that trend and not let either the Red Storm or the Huskies have their way, Notre Dame (13-9, 6-3 Big East) knows it has to stick to its game plan.

Men's Soccer: A minute to spare

·

Though Notre Dame dominated possession for the first 89 minutes of their Alumni Stadium clash against Pittsburgh Wednesday, a set piece goal for the Panthers and a freak deflection on an own goal had the teams even at 2-2 with a minute left in the game. In 1989, Notre Dame had been playing Division I tennis for four years, had never been to the NCAA Tournament, and never earned a spot in the national rankings. That all changed when head coach Jay Louderback arrived. Since he was hired to lead the Irish program, Louderback has led Notre Dame to 16 NCAA Tournament appearances and 15 conference titles. Hockey: Lavin makes mark quickly

·

A year ago, Irish senior defenseman Joe Lavin hadn't even officially joined the Notre Dame team. Today, he is the captain of a No. 13 Irish squad coming off a 2-1 upset of previously top-ranked Boston College squad on Saturday and the unquestioned leader of the Notre Dame blue line. So much for slowly rising the ranks.

Football: Blocked out

·

If the Irish defense wasn't suffering enough after giving up 367 rushing yards to Navy during Notre Dame's 35-17 loss Saturday, news on Monday certainly set that mood further back.
