Jenkins congratulates Archbishop Wilton Gregory elevation to cardinal

In light of Pope Francis's announcement to appoint Archbishop Wilton Gregory to the rank of cardinal, University President Fr. John Jenkins expressed his congratulations Monday.

“We offer Archbishop Gregory our warmest congratulations on his elevation to cardinal by Pope Francis and assure him of our prayers and support,” Jenkins said.

Gregory is currently the archbishop of Washington D.C. In 2012, the University awarded Gregory an honorary degree.

“Archbishop Gregory's appointment as the first African American cardinal is particularly important at this critical moment in our nation’s struggle for racial justice and equality,” Jenkins said.
